Night Prayer for Forwards in the Moravian Tradition
A: Lord, it is night.
B: Let us reflect on the day, and admit we have wounded God’s love.
C: We stumble in the darkness
Light of the world, be our light!
(silence)
A: God says: “I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak.” (Ezekiel 34.16)
Holy Spirit, empower us to accept the grace that our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ offers to us today.
B: Hear the words of our Lord: “Your sins are forgiven, go and sin no more.” Standing in the light, let us give praise to the triune God:
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Participants may read out one of the following Bible passages, or another:
"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." James 1:27
“Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy." Proverbs 31:9
"For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him." Romans 10:12
"Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause." Isaiah 1:17
"Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but treat everyone with thoughtful respect. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all." Romans 12:15-18
"He has told you, O human being, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8
C: Let us pray for those we have met today, and for ourselves.
(prayer)
A: Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit
B: For you have redeemed me, Lord God of truth.
C: Keep me as the apple of your eye
Hide me under the shadow of your wings.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory
are yours, now and forever. Amen

Lighten our darkness, Lord, we pray,
and in your great mercy defend us
from all perils and dangers of this night,
for the love of your only Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
A: Keep watch, dear Lord,
with those who wake, or watch, or weep.
B: Tend the sick, give rest to the weary,
C: sustain the dying and calm the suffering;
all for your love's sake, O Christ our Redeemer. Amen.
A: Lord, it is night.
B: What has been done has been done –
let it be.
C: What has not been done has not been done – let it be.
A: Lord, it is night.
B: We rest in you. We pray for deep sleep, and joy in the morning.
C: And may Christ, and him crucified, remain our confession of faith.
