Sessions 1 and 2
Session 1: Why are we doing this?
Objectives: Familiarise group with the idea of a Rule of Life; examine the purpose, benefits and pitfalls of having a mission or vision statement either as a group or as an individual. Move the group towards developing its own ‘guiding principle’. Session 2: Guiding principle and priorities Objectives: By the end of the session the group will have discovered the cycle of theological reflection and shared possible ‘guiding principles’ for the group, and each person will have two practical steps they intend to take into the coming week. |
Sessions 3 and 4
Session 3: Staying close to God: daily structure
Objectives: Offer the group workable tools to use for daily spiritual devotions in Bible reading and prayer; allow the group to experience some of these in practice. Session 4: Staying close to God: practising the presence Objectives: Explore practical methods to stay close to God in the busy-ness of daily life. Optional extra: some groups may wish to introduce the discipline of fasting: some of the benefits and practicalities. |
Sessions 5 and 6
Session 5: Serving others and being a missional community
Objectives: To examine how active service and mission form part of a Rule of Life and are motivated by the same principles as spiritual disciplines. Session 6: The Rule of Life for the new mini-order Objectives: To give an overall structure to the Rule of Life to be devised, including elements of mission and service. |
